Things you could do after a really long day

How many of you have felt the urge to simply rush back home, hurriedly take off clothes and do nothing else but sleep till you recover from mere oblivion after a really, really long, exhausting, tiring, Herculean day?

It’s okay to get tired. Getting tired isn’t a sign of a weak body. We’re humans, not machines. That moment when we realise we’re done with things we wanted to get rid of soon, there comes a tendency to give time for ourselves. Give time for our brain and body to rest. It’s fine. It’s totally fine. But before you throw yourself on your bed, here are a few things you could do to sleep even better.

  • Take care of your skin :

I know that the urge to hit the bed right after you enter your room will push you harder more than you try to pull yourself away from it. But this would take only a couple of minutes. It’s your body. You need to take care of it, because no one else will. Once you take off your footwear and three-piece suit, go to the bathroom and splash some water on your face. You’ll feel the freshness. Repeat it 2-3 times and do the same thing on your arms and neck. The energy levels would still remain zero, but it’s better because a few minutes ago it was below negative. You’ve been juggling between ten meetings, climbing forty seven flights of stairs, boarding twenty cabs, and the result is, even if you don’t feel the heat, your skin does. Sweating is good, really good, but it shouldn’t stay. The longer it stays, the worse it gets. It’s like stagnant water which becomes a breeding spot for mosquitoes. So, don’t forget to do this.

Let’s say you sleep for the next 9 hours. Imagine the condition of your face when sweat gets glued to the skin for the forementioned time. The following morning you’ll find yourself even more exhausted and it won’t change even if you go for a shower. It’s been there for a day. Spend two minutes so that you can prepare yourself for the next day.

  • Hydrate yourself :

I completely understand that you’ve been drinking water all day. You’ve been carrying your bottle with you everywhere except the loo. But that doesn’t mean you just bang your head on the bed at night. In fact, night time is when you should be drinking a lot of water. Your body is devoid of water for the entire night and it only receives its fuel the following morning. Generally, I recommend taking 2-3 glasses of water before going to bed.

  • This one’s for your eyes :

Cut a cucumber and place two slices, one on each eye. Wait for ten minutes. Then dip a cloth in cold water (temperature around 5°C) and place it in such a way that it cools both the eyelids. (Like the blindfolded way). Don’t disturb it for ten minutes. Slowly take it off. This keeps your eyes healthy after they’re exposed to long hours of blue light and afternoon Sun’s UV rays.

  • How you sleep matters :

Yes it does. As it turns out, sleeping on your side is actually pretty good for you — especially if you’re sleeping on your left side. Not only can it help reduce snoring, it’s great for your digestion and might even reduce heartburn. But long hours of side sleeping can result in shoulder pain and wrinkles.Putting a pillow between your lower legs will help better align your hips to avoid low back pain. If you prefer sleeping on your side, make sure to choose a good pillow to avoid neck and back pain.

Sleeping on your back gives you your best shot at resting your spine in its most natural position. In fact, your entire skeleton will thank you for sleeping on your back, because your arms, shoulders, and legs won’t be jammed under the weight of your body or contorted in some bizarre amusement-park-ride pose.

Sleep on whichever side feels most comfortable, but don’t be afraid to switch to a different position if it’s not working for you.

  1. These are very helpful tips, I was the kid who always forgets to drink water and my elder sister always gets mad at me. Now, I understand how staying hydrated helps my body freshen up and stay healthy. Thank u for this! 🙂
